Although Shiraz had been slow to find its audience inside the old Habib’s space even before COVID-19 closures Chef Jainine Jaffer has been making her way lately via #mealprep services, and having come to trust the Chef through several prior catering gigs a #supportlocal lunch on Thursday once again arrived on time with all the appropriate plates, portions and utensils for a great meal.
Still cooking out of the kitchen at 2575 South Decatur Boulevard, but accepting payment personally via Venmo, PayPal and Zelle, it was at a cost of $15 per staff member that ten individual trays were delivered by 11:15am, Salad with handmade Vinaigrette going over well with those looking to eat light while Saffron Rice with mixed Vegetables also proved popular.
Always on time and never neglecting the essentials, Koobideh Kabobs gone quickly while Chicken Souvlaki lagged behind Chef Jaffer’s Tikka Masala in popularity, those seeking spice found it in pureed Eggplant teaming with Jalapenos and Garlic that tasted good on its own but great atop a piece of buttery Paratha.
Not surprised to see staff leery of Aloo Chana Saag, an unfamiliar dish that assuredly tastes better than it looks, suffice it to say that Samosa are always safe and in this case nicely peppered while both Desserts were traditional and delicious, though Laddoo resembling Donuts predictably received more praise from unadventurous palates than did thin Noodles swimming with Nuts and Raisin in Milk brightened by Cardamom.
N/A: Making it blog policy to not ‘rate’ places based on catering alone the professionalism exhibited by Chef Jaffer is everything one might hope for, $15 per diner yielding enough Food to feed at least twice as many guests with everything delivered temperature appropriate and delicious as ever.
